Baltimore County Volunteers (BCV) in partnership with the Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) has developed a new volunteer initiative—Kindergarten Classroom Volunteers—to help our youngest learners through their first year in public school.
While specific duties will be determined at the classroom level, examples of duties are:
- Greet students and assist them in getting started in their day.
- Assist the teacher with taking attendance and checking belongings.
- Work with small groups on skill development as directed by the teacher.
- Listen and encourage students as they practice reading or math skills.
To create the best possible learning experience and help our young learners, BCV and BCPS are seeking patient, caring and committed individuals to volunteer in each elementary school in Baltimore County. We are asking for a commitment of six to 15 hours per week to establish a consistent and positive learning environment for students and teachers alike. Volunteers will be screened to meet all state and federal laws, and will be asked to participate in an orientation prior to starting in the school.
