The Baltimore County Department of Aging, in coordination with the Maryland Department of Aging, is sponsoring a series of workshops for people with chronic conditions, modeled after the Chronic Disease Self-Management Workshop from Stanford University. Free training is being offered to persons who want to be leaders and facilitate a six-week workshop for participants who suffer from chronic conditions. A leader must have a chronic disease or live with someone who has a chronic condition. For more information, please call 410-887-2594.
This new initiative from the Baltimore County Executive will place one volunteer in every kindergarten classroom. From reading Dr. Seuss to serving juice, kindergarten classroom volunteers help our young learners navigate through the world of discovery.
Citizen Corps was created to help coordinate volunteer activities that will make our communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to emergency situations. It provides opportunities for people to participate in a range of measures to make their families, their homes, and their communities safer from the threats of crime, terrorism, and disasters. Educating citizens and networking local communities are key elements to minimizing the threat to individual health, property and overall safety during an emergency situation. The county invites residents to participate in "Neighbors Helping Neighbors," an all hazards program designed to teach people the skills required to get through the first, critical 72 hours following an emergency.
