The ribbon cutting ceremony, to be held tomorrow prior to the girls varsity lacrosse game between Catonsville High and Mt. de Sales Academy, also marks the first turf field in Baltimore County. A second turf field is planned for Seminary Park in Lutherville.
The artificial turf replaces the existing natural grass field to provide greater playability for school and Recreation Council use.
At a cost of $1.2 million, the field construction began in November 2006. The field is 99,000 square feet of turf. Funding for the field came from Baltimore County ($800,000) and from a state grant ($400,000).
